Well, it's been another great weekend for taking pictures: the gritty Grainne Duffy Band at Bronte Blues Club on Friday, rugby at West Park Leeds on Saturday and (here's the new experience) rowing on the River Aire today, Sunday. The last time I saw Grainne (pronounced gron-ya), she was demonstrating how well she could play a guitar with one finger strapped up due to a food processor mishap. No such encumbrances this time. I was especially impressed by the quality of her voice on Friday, and so were the rest of the audience. This was another weekend when local rugby teams all seemed to be playing away and so ickledot ventured further afield to Bramhope, near Leeds, the home of West Park Leeds rugby club. I'd heard they were on good form and the game against Roundhegians proved it as they romped home 55-8. Funnily enough, they didn't play especially well throughout, making a number of errors, but their strength and pace were overwhelming on the occasions when the fluidity came.
A chance meeting at Bradford & Bingley rugby club over a homeward pint led to an invitation to Bradford Amateur Rowing Club for their club competition on Sunday morning. It proved to be a great learning experience, growing accustomed to the particular type of movement the sport brings. Some quite pleasing shots but also room for improvement methinks.
Still, a most enjoyable way to spend a warm, sunny Sunday morning in Autumn. By all accounts the weather's set to change so it could be the last one for a while. Have a great week!
