To Halifax and a new club on Saturday: Heath Rugby Club to see their match against 'can't be caught' table toppers, Doncaster Phoenix. As mentioned in a previous post, the Doncaster team is coached by Anthony Posa, also the head coach of Yorkshire Under 20s. Before the game he mentioned to me that a number of younger players would be playing, given the team's unassailable position. All began well for Doncaster as they ran in two tries. However, Heath kept plugging away with a number of penalties and also stemmed Doncaster's flow at the other end. A key figure in Heath's revival was Ezra Hinchliffe, a player who has featured for Yorkshire U20s during the season. Midway through the second half it even looked as if the home side might level the score. It wasn't to be but Heath were obviously more than satisfied with their afternoon's work (as shown by their happy huddle below). A final score of 15-20 not only earned them a league point, it also marked a significant improvement on their 36-3 loss in the corresponding fixture earlier in the season.
It wasn't a game of fast flowing rugby; the wet, muddy conditions seemed to slow everything up, although the mud was great from a photographing point of view. As usual, there are more shots of the game on Flickr.
