On Friday last ickledot tweeted this image of Ilkley winger Ben McGee scorching towards the try line in his county semi-final against Cornwall, pondering as to whether he and his fellow Yorkshire U20 personnel would help guide their club to victory and promotion in the following day's game against Pocklington. This proved to be something of an accurate prediction as Ben himself was 'on fire', scoring several tries and playing a major role in ensuring that this was exactly what happened. Seventeen points to the good without reply by half-time, Ilkley moved further ahead, eventually amassing a total of 33 by the end of the game. If that was cruising to victory, it was a voyage with choppy waters at times as Pocklington's resistance was strong and they enjoyed long periods of possession in their opponent's half. On another day their duck could have been broken earlier and it was they who closed the scoring with two quick tries and conversions at the death.
By that time though the game was won for Ilkley; the champagne popped and flowed under blue skies and warm spring sunshine. Well done to Ilkley. You can see more shots from the game here.
