Well, the Rugby Union season seems finally to be over. Or is it? At Under 20s and Senior levels several Yorkshire players have been selected for England Counties to tour Hungary and Roumania respectively. These include Hull Ionians' Dave Laverick, featured in a post recently after Yorkshire played Durham, and Josh Burridge, captain of Yorkshire Under 20s Championship winning side. For the first weekend in a long time there are no matches to photograph so ickledot spent time preparing for his forthcoming exhibition Rugby Union Yorkshire, to be displayed at Bradford Industrial Museum for four weeks from 9th June. It's designed to be something of a contrast to news of those high-flying multi-talented players who will shortly be visiting these shores to star in the World Cup; it celebrates everyone else! As the exhibition booklet blurb says:
"… this exhibition of photographs concentrates on those who turn out to play week after week throughout the county in all weathers. Men & women, boys & girls of all abilites, watched by far fewer people, paid far less (if at all), they are the bedrock of the game and deserve to be celebrated."
You can get a sneaky peek of the booklet here. It's best viewed in Acrobat Reader as a two page spread (View - Page Display - Two Page View, tick 'Show Cover Page in Two Page View'). If … if? … when you go to see the show there'll be an opportunity to buy a very reasonably priced paper version of the booklet.
Once the exhibition closes, the plan is for it to be displayed in a number of other venues up to and during the World Cup. So if you think your club would be interested in showing it for a time, contact Yorkshire RFU, who have very kindly sponsored its production. For any other information about the exhibition, email me!
