Mixed fortunes for Yorkshire's two senior sides last Saturday as they faced two different opponents in Doncaster's Castle Park, home of the Knights and Phoenix. First came the women, playing against Northumberland. This was a great performance from a side which is clearly growing in confidence and increasingly operating well together, as a unit. Ahead throughout the game, they pulled clear in the second half. Strength in the forwards and real pace in the backs, particularly on either wing, overwhelmed the opposition. The final score was 25-5. They can look forward with some optimism, to their final group game next Saturday. More photos from their great display here.
Things were less positive for the men. A hard fought game although not without its errors from both sides. Scores were traded and the home side led by a single point going into the last ten minutes. Opponents Cheshire were on the up though; their penultimate try had been a skilful kick through and it was they who crossed the line again in the dying moments, ending Yorkshire's hopes. In contrast with the women, next weekend's opponents, Lancashire, can be viewed with some trepidation in the light of this display. The challenge is there though, along with the ability to make it happen, with a better performance. More pics here.
