With the main season all but complete, the county's senior representative teams took to the field at Huddersfield Rugby Club yesterday. This is part of a three match programme, two 'at home' and the other away. On this occasion both the men and women were matched against Durham.
For the first half at least it was a similar tale for the men as opening tries were traded. Yorkshire led at half-time though and their grip tightened in the second forty. Signs have to be encouraging for the future as the balance between forwards and backs in terms of point scoring shows there are a wealth of options. A good blend of youth and experience as last year's heroes including captain Joe Bedford joined together with younger talent such as former Yorkshire U20s Lewis Minikin and captain of the U20s epic triumph a week ago, Josh Burridge. Both of the latter registered tries, Josh on his debut.
Final score for the men was 33-12. A great start for both teams. Next week it's on to another 'home' match at Doncaster, where the women will play Northumberland and the men face Cheshire. The following week it's a journey across the Pennines for a Roses encounter with Lancashire.
