First up it was back to the Bees of Bradford & Bingley on Saturday. They were playing their first home game since the great Boxing Day flood which wiped out not only pitches but also the clubhouse, gym and changing facilities. Rather fitting that the wet weather made a return, along with a biting wind and generous flurries of snow. By the close it just about took over as players turned their backs against the onslaught whenever they could. Once again, the Bees just about had the game won by half time, running in several tries, including the one below from Nick Gore.
Their opponents, Yarnbury, recovered somewhat after the break, scoring a couple of tries of their own. However, the margin was maintained as the home side also crossed the line on more than one occasion. Just got to show you this distant shot of both teams battling against the elements. Quite a challenge for the camera and man behind it too. It was so cold! You can see more pictures here and a more detailed view of the game here.
And so to Doncaster on Sunday. This was a much closer affair as each team vied for local bragging rights. It seemed that each time the Knights notched up points, Rotherham immediately came back with a score of their own. Indeed, at one point during the first half Titans were ahead by 10-5. ickledot was fortunate enough to be right on the spot when Ollie Stedman peeled away from a driving maul for one of three tries he scored on the day, and also to regain the lead for the Knights.
It was tight for most of the match with the margin becoming wider only in the closing stages, the final score being 34-24 in favour of the Knights. Thankfully the weather conditions were much more agreeable, the temperature even rising during the course of the game. Not sure whether Sky got it all covered but ickledot was very pleased with some of his shots of the game. Many thanks to all for a great performance from the sides on the field and the friendly and helpful staff off it. You can see more shots from the game here and a more detailed match report here. Final shot shows the Knights scrum half Michael Heaney behind a steaming scrum.
