While England hosted Ireland in the Six Nations at Twickenham, less than a couple of miles away in Richmond, Bradford & Bingley's mixed ability Bumbles were playing in an almost equally historic match. It was against Parliament's own rugby union club, made up of MPs, Lords and members of staff.
As you'll hear in the little video below, it was blustery and cold. Us northerners tend to assume that Londoners enjoy a sub tropical climate for most of the year but twas certainly not so on this day.
The home squad for this particular fixture included a Lord, a current and former MP along with a number of guests, some might say 'ringers' which included England Rugby League international Ikram Butt (below). As the commentary mentions, the Bumbles came out on top with a couple of tries in the first half and further scores in the second forty. Overall it was a great day out. And England won!
