Long time readers of the ickledot blog will know he's been photographing the Yorkshire Under 20s squad for a number of years now. He has good reason to be grateful to coaches and selectors for welcoming his input as the relationships has provided many happy memories and also brought a whole range of opportunities. This has included no fewer than three trips to the touchline at Twickenham along with the chance to photograph the senior Yorkshire teams, both women and men.
This weekend the latest cohort of potential players began their new season with the county (also, ickledot's fourth with the Under 20s, would you believe it?). The long journey, which could end at the game's headquarters in West London next spring, began at the humble but no less worthy Leodiensian Rugby Club on a cold and cloudy Sunday morning.
The session began with coaching for both forwards and backs, and ended with a game. No external opponents on this occasion; attendees were divided into two teams. The match was no less competitive for being 'in-house'. Players were eager to show their best and it's clear there's a good deal of talent in this new crop.
Not sure of the final score but the blue team seemed to have the upper hand in both of the shortened halves. Word has it that a second trial game, possibly against a Wharfedale team, will take place in January before the official fixtures begin not long after.
So, well done to all those who turned out on Sunday and good luck for the rest of the season. You can see more pictures of the session over on Flickr.
