Well, it's been another great weekend of rugby as we near the end of another season. Three games or tournaments, one each on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For Skipton, ickledot's chosen club on Saturday, it was the final game of the season.
Despite playing an exhilarating game against Leeds Corinthians, attacking almost continuously throughout with several scores in each half, the afternoon was to end in disappointment. News came from Wensleydale that they'd secured the victory giving them promotion and shutting out Skipton. Despite this result, coach Dave Duxbury was able to be philosophical, reflecting that it was mistakes made and opportunities missed earlier in the season that really counted, not the events of the last afternoon. Still, Skipton live to fight another day and if their current form continues they're bound to make progress next season.
It had been a quick turnaround for ickledot, recharging batteries and clearing memory cards as he'd been photographing the Bumbles again the previous night. They were playing their annual fixture against their old 'foes' from Llanelli Warriors - the UK's oldest mixed ability rugby team - and thankfully they were able to win.
Due to a late start the game was played in almost darkness as several floodlights were not working. Once again the Canon 7D Mk2 really came good, producing usable pictures when it really ought not to have been possible.
Sunday was Yorkshire Cup day for several age groups of both genders. It was one of those occasions when one really wished for a time machine or the chance to be in several places at once. ickledot opted for the U18 Girls Tournament as his presence had been requested by Kurt, competition organiser and coach of the home team, West Park Leeds.
Despite the cold weather and rain the tournament was enjoyed by all and each team got to play three games; two in the group stages and one more to decide the final places. It was the home team's day as West Park overcame Castleford in the final.
Regular readers will know that this is a new site with a new address, easier to understand hopefully. Being a Squarespace website it has a sales and payment facility which ickledot has decided to utilise, hopefully to raise a bit of money for equipment, travel etc, while taking all these photos. You can read exactly how it works on the site's shop page but it basically gives the user an opportunity to download an image of their choice for use on social networks or home pages and then leave a bit of money for them - from 50p to £5 - the choice is up to you the customer. There have been a couple of sales already so hopefully it's going to work.
