Knights Victorious, Bedford Foiled Once More

As mentioned in ickledot's previous post, the Saturday game last weekend was from the Green King Championship, the clash between Doncaster Knights and Bedford Blues. Both were play-off combatants last season, both beaten by eventual champions Bristol. Bedford were still seeking their first win of this season. As Michael Casey said during his YouTube review of the match, the hope at Castle Park was that the away side's quest for a win would go on for at least one more week.

And that's how it happened. Not without a few scares along the way, it should be said. Bedford actually led for a short spell during this high scoring encounter and the Knights needed to dig deep to finally quell any resistance. Given that a few days have passed, ickledot won't go through a blow by blow commentary. You can see the points being scored in the link above and read a detailed account on the Knights' website. Scoring thirty points, the Knights bagged their first league bonus points of the season, gained in no small part by the contributions of man of the match Mat Clark (above), both play maker and points scorer on the day.

Latu Makaafi - 'fending off'

As can be seen from the pictures above, ickledot had a spell photographing from the sidelines, during which he captured a phase of play which included a run from the mighty Latu Makaafi. Such a strong, forceful player, the expression on his face reflects just how much effort and aggression goes into his play.

Takes Two, No, Three To Tackle!

Although the run above came to nothing, Latu did get on the score sheet later with a try emanating from a powerful driving maul. The maul was a feature of the Knights' play last season and it was great to see it in full flow once more on Saturday.

ickledot seems to have photographed the Knights' Paul Jarvis recently, clearly because he's playing particularly well. It was he who finally got over the line for the try which gained the bonus points and seemed to finally knock the spirit out of the Bedford Blues. You can see from the celebration at the top of this post, it certainly dissolved any tensions for the Knights' players and supporters.

Paul Jarvis: En Route To The Winning Try

Good luck to the Knights when they travel to Ealing Trailfinders next weekend. Meanwhile, you can see one or two more of ickledot's pictures from the game over on Flickr.
