Unlike the football world with its virtually instantaneous transfers, many player moves in rugby can be arranged long before the actual departure. ickledot's first experience of this at Doncaster Knights was when it was announced that Ollie Stedman was leaving to join Yorkshire Carnegie last season. This was with several games of the regular campaign still to play and the play offs beckoning. Ollie went on to play a key role for the Knights, particularly in the play off final against Bristol.
The first major departure of this season was announced yesterday. The Knights' long serving Tongan international and hero of the back row, Latu Makaafi, will be joining Coventry Rugby. He's had two spells at the Knights and has been a popular player with supporters. At Coventry they're clearly very excited to have snapped him up and well they might be. Good luck to him when he goes but they're not getting their hands on him yet.
As with Ollie last season there are still several games to go and a play off campaign in the offing so Latu could well have many opportunities to enhance his Knights reputation before leaving.
In other Knights news, ickledot's little booklet of photographs about the 2015-16 season, Valiant Knights, is still on sale in the club shop but now you can also buy a digital version from the ickledot shop, for just £1. It has all the same pages and images, to be enjoyed on your screen, perhaps to sample before buying the paper copy. If it proves popular ickledot could be realeasing more digital booklets.
