Thrills Galore And A Win For West Leeds

As previewed it was cup day in West Leeds on Saturday - the regional quarter final of the RFU Intermediate Cup. It had been raining throughout the morning in Sunny Oxenhope but the skies cleared with the arrival of Cumbrian opponents Aspatria.

As far as anyone knew the two sides had never met before and therefore neither knew what quite to expect. The home side (playing in blue and gold) began brightly, on the front foot and moving the ball well from wing to wing and through the phases.

There was a quite a crowd gathered round the pitch to watch the encounter and more giving vocal support in front of the clubhouse. Aspatria, in red, had also brought a good number of supporters.

The early attacks brought a first score down the left for West Leeds although not before Aspatria had gone ahead with a penalty. The try eased the tension and further points followed. The pattern was set for the rest of the game and the home side continued to score steadily, amassing a total of fifty points.

Aspatria had spent much of the game defending but they were rewarded with a late consolation try and conversion, making the final score 50-10.

With West Leeds attacking for much of the game there were multiple opportunities for action shots as the play was hardly ever very far from ickledot's camera.

It was a great afternoon and you can see more shots from the game over on Flickr. In fact, if you're a real glutton for punishment you can see even more in the ickledot shop. Well done to West Leeds and good luck to them for their semi-final at Silhillians on 15 April.
