Ilkley Curb Kirkby Lonsdale Challenge

First visit of the new season to Ilkley Rugby Club and a second outing for my new all-Olympus combo as described in last week’s post. Visitors from the north west were Kirkby Lonsdale. Too early to judge form but I did overhear somebody mention that the two teams held adjoining league positions at the end of the last campaign.

Swerve To Deceive The Tackler

However, it proved not to be so. Both sides have had major changes during the break, with established players moving on or retiring. The new look Kirkby Lonsdale is a young one and, with only a few minutes on the clock, it began to show. As the official match report describes, the home side were on top from the start, scoring regularly throughout the match, while the defence remained strong, holding back all the visiting offence had to offer.

Reverse Pass: Kirkby Lonsdale On The Attack

The final 43-5 score line doesn’t quite reflect play as Kirkby Lonsdale competed for the full eighty minutes, being rewarded with a try in the closing seconds. Despite the defeat, this should give them hope for better fortune in the season to come.

Team Tackling

As for Ilkley, it should be a most encouraging result, particularly if their defence can go on to remain as resolute, matching an attack which has always been fast and strong. You can see more pictures from the game over in the ickledot shop.

A good afternoon’s kicking for Charles Morgan, even if some didn’t appear interested!

Still very pleased with the new gear though the 80-300mm equivalent lens is taking a bit of getting used to in terms of adjusting the zoom - not quite as loose as my Canon 70-200mm. Time will tell, particularly as those testing darker days of Autumn and Winter begin to show themselves.
